One Shots: Sands of time

Posted by admin September 11, 2009

Every in the same state often, we get a longer note to go with a representation someone sends in. Today's One Shots contributor, Lottara, sent onward one from Warhammer Online along with this stunning screen, so we're going to divide straight to that today. Enjoy!

The sun is much too brilliant for Lottara, but there's nothing much she can do near it. News just came about a host of Orderlings landing in the Land of the Dead. Soon these hills self-reliance be swarming with the vermin. While she stands guard close to the war camp, the Tomb of the Vulture Lord looms faraway in the background...

While I haven't seen too much of the PVE in LotD, I strolled round enough to say it's a stunningly beautiful zone. And at the time that the zone flips, suddenly there's a whole lot more you should be worried about than a few roaming public quests. No matter the kind of all the disgruntled ex-players are shouting in the forums, Warhammer Online is a scheme I'm always having a blast playing.

One Shots is di~atory in need of more screenshots, so if you've got more time while out adventuring, why not gather some up for us and transmit them to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com. Add your credit, (guild and server welcome too) and a quick description, and you're station! We'll post it and give you the love.

PAX 2009: Massively's first look at gameplay in All Points Bulletin

Posted by admin September 11, 2009

All Points Bulletin was representing at PAX and season the game wasn't playable I did manage to see a self-same cool PAX-only gameplay video presentation. Epic Games' Mark Rein and Realtime Worlds' community officer Chris Collins – you know, that dashing gentlemen in totality those cool video podcasts – played a bunch of the bit of strategy and edited it into a nicely narrated sample of what playing the fearless is like.

What I ended up seeing was a game that ~ the agency of all accounts looks very ready for launch, so I wasn't surprised to exist told beta was "a few weeks" away and not months. And space of time that date is still a little ways off, most other attendees who sententious precept the video seemed to agree that launch day couldn't advance soon enough.

NATO seeks Second Life tenders

Posted by admin September 11, 2009

The NATO (the North Atlantic Treaty Organization) Supreme Headquarters Allied Command Transformation is immediately seeking tenders for the construction of a proof-of-concept position in a virtual environment. "The first scenario is to replicate a generic headquarters mingle for a NATO operation. ... The second scenario will involve replicating the Headquarters Supreme Allied Command Transformation in Norfolk, USA. The without more acceptable worlds that may provide a solution to this statement of moil are Second Life by Linden Labs[sic], OLIVE by Forterra, or NEXUS by ECS."

Actually, this part's a little confusing, because of the three essential environments specified as 'acceptable', only one (Forterra's OLIVE) actually meets the least quantity criteria given in the solicitation. NATO SHQACT acknowledges this in a following clarification document, but is still seeking Second Life submissions anyway. As it stands, it doesn't assume like any existing Second Life developer can actually meet the binding Defense Contract requirements in any case, and submissions close on the 8th of this month.

The Daily Grind: Will you be playing Aion open beta this weekend?

Posted by admin September 11, 2009

With Aion's unreserved beta set to launch this weekend (September 6-13), we're queer: Do you plan on giving it a shot? The game has gone through several closed beta phases dating back to early June. All closed beta phases leading up until the very last one were using an older version of the game client (1.1). They've recently upgraded to 1.5, such we highly suggest giving it a try before making any conclusive judgments based on early testing experiences. We also hear the unenclosed beta version will be the version Aion launches with in North America and Europe. Be ~ly to read up on Shadow of the Balaur.

Open beta characters order be capped at level 30, which is high enough to test a good mix of what the game has to offer including Rifts and the Abyss. Rifts are portals that resolution take you into your enemy's PvE lands and the Abyss is a cyclops PvPvE zone where the game's three factions battle for mastership. I'm personally going to play a bit next week of the same kind with an Elyos Gladiator named Snafzg on the NA servers, so build sure to say "Hi!" if you see me putzing around. Settling ~ward a class has been challenging thus far.

Want to know additional about Aion? NCsoft invites you into the world of Atreia whither the Elyos and the Asmodians fight each other and the reverse Balaur for control of the shattered planet. Check out out altogether our coverage of this must-play MMO!

Posted by admin September 11, 2009

Good information for Final Fantasy XI players looking to make the jump into Final Fantasy XIV in 2010 -- you may be able to keep your existing FFXI character names in the upcoming cognomen. At least, you will if Square Enix Producer Hiromichi Tanaka has his high~. Tanaka and FFXIV Producer Sage Sundi were interviewed by the PlayStation Blog's Chris Morell at GamesCom 2009, whereas they were asked if name transfers between the Final Fantasy MMOs give by ~ be possible.

Tanaka said, "It hasn't been confirmed yet, end we would like to give incentives to the players. First of completely, FFXI has 32 worlds, and they may have the same individual across different worlds [...]. However, when we have FFXIV, we still slip on't know how many worlds there's going to be up to the present time, but players might have the same name if they all irritate to the same world, so there may be conflicts."

Square Enix's re~, if implemented, is to have a surname system where players be possible to keep their original name but pair it with something else uncommon in a surname. While the ability to import character names into FFXIV isn't confirmed, it's inert good news that Square Enix is considering offering this to their lingering-time fans in Final Fantasy XI.

More DUST 514 info revealed in video interview with CCP Games CEO

Posted by admin September 11, 2009

The DUST 514 proclamation from CCP Games pretty much lit up the internet during Gamescom. In cause you missed it, the creators of the space-based MMO EVE Online announced that DUST 514 is a corbel MMO that combines a first person shooter with elements of a substantive time strategy game. Console gamers will play as mercenaries in DUST 514, hired fire-arms that conquer territories, cities, even entire planets for the EVE Online players who employ them. These are the extremely same planets found in EVE Online. The ever-shifting solar method borders between player alliance (guild) territories in EVE means there will be an endless supply of lucrative contracts, and presumably military hardware, rolling in by reason of DUST mercs.

To simply call this intertwining of two separate MMOs "emulous" would be an understatement. This is really new ground in the efforts, and no one's certain how this is going to act out. Many are skeptical. Quite a number of people wonder touching what DUST 514 is going to mean for MMOs and with respect to FPS games. Can a console MMO really integrate with EVE Online? Will EVE players take . that gamers who've never flown a single day in their New Eden brilliant collection will be able to affect their control over solar systems? There are in the same state many questions.

Fortunately, a video interview with CCP Games CEO Hilmar Pétursson at Gamona sheds a little more light on the game and its integration with EVE Online. Stick through us after the jump for a video embed of Hilmar discussing DUST 514.
