The Daily Grind: Guilds as groups, not just chat?

Posted by admin September 26, 2009

With the specious trend moving more and more towards the single-player option of soloing end MMOGs, we've noticed that there's been a move begone from guild content in many newer games. Apparently we aren't the singly ones who noticed it as there is an excellent post gone ~ on Journeys with Jaye that delves into guilds and makes some bold statements about what MMOs are doing wrong - or right - in compliments to guilds and what developers should look at doing.

The doubt we'd raise is that considering the slant of games in greater numbers towards solo content, are we seeing the slow death of guilds in the manner that anything more than a communal chat channel you share with friends? It certainly seems that in sundry newer games - short of raiding or the occasional (rare) group representation content - much of the time people will be off on their be in possession of just talking back and forth. Do you think that guilds are instigating into social-chat-only type structure, or do you think MMOs inclination change and begin to include more group/guild type content to gain people playing together again? Where do you see guilds going in the newest procreation of MMOs?

The Daily Grind: What type of ship combat is ideal in a sci-fi MMO?

Posted by admin September 26, 2009

The advent years will bring numerous options for sci-fi MMO gameplay. While EVE Online is shortly the reigning champ, other ship-based MMOs are on the opportunity to pass like Star Trek Online and Jumpgate Evolution. There are also a not many dark horses in the running like Taikodom and Black Prophecy. Despite their differing dauntless mechanics, what all of these titles share is combat that takes order of importance in three-dimensional space. While there's still a default level orientation, you're not fixed to that horizontal plane, giving you more vectors of attack and evasion. Each game has (or will be obliged) its own twist on combat, though.

EVE Online's combat is methodical and somewhat difficult to master. However, it's also a blast once you comprehend what you're doing, especially given that that when you gain into Tech II and Tech III ships, there's real overthrow involved that can get your heart pumping. Combat in Star Trek Online has been described to the degree that being above all else a tactical experience, but from the video footage we posted yesterday, it's faster-paced than we anticipated. These ships appear fairly agile. But when it comes to dynamic joystick-style distance combat in an MMO, Jumpgate Evolution will likely be in a class of its own.

With these differing approaches to the game mechanics of battle with in these titles, what do you want out of ship brush in an MMO? Do any of these games fit what you're looking during in a space-based massively multiplayer online game?

Details emerge on Karos Online's Fletta system

Posted by admin September 26, 2009

Karos Online's principal closed beta event took place a bit over a week ago, and in a recent press release NHN stated that it was a prosperity and that further closed beta dates will be announced soon. They furthermore said that they are ready and willing to adapt the pastime based on tester's opinions. The main reason for the hug release, however, was to provide details on one of the bit of strategy's central features: the Fletta system. Fletta isn't the cram you crumble into your Greek salad -- it is "the magical spiritedness which underpins the world of Asmara", and it's going to esteem a variety of uses for players of Karos Online.

Fletta Points are accumulated ~ the agency of killing monsters, but they aren't the same as experience points. You can use them to raise some character attributes, or hang on to a undeniable amount of them to provide an experience bonus while leveling. They have power to be traded to NPCs in different regions in return for special local items and bonuses, and at high levels, the points be possible to even be used to cast particularly potent spells. There are in like manner Fletta Gem items (both weapons and armor) that grow in stats and what is seen with the player. They are crafted out of Fletta Gem Shards that arrive from mines that player guilds will battle to control. Sounds like a prescription for some heated competition.
